Why cups to grams depends on the ingredient
A "cup" measures space, not weight. A cup of feathers and a cup of rocks weigh very different amounts โ flour and honey are the same story. That's why European recipes weigh everything, and why 1 cup of flour (120 g) is nearly half the weight of 1 cup of sugar (200 g). This converter uses realistic per-ingredient weights so your bakes turn out the way the recipe author intended.
Frequently asked questions
Is 250 g the same as 1 cup?
Only for water-like liquids. 1 US cup is 237 ml, which weighs 237 g for water and milk. For anything denser or lighter (flour 120 g, honey 340 g per cup), pick the ingredient in the converter above.
How do I convert tablespoons to grams?
Divide the ingredient's grams-per-cup by 16. Butter is 227 g per cup, so one tablespoon of butter is about 14 g.
US cup vs metric cup?
This tool uses the US customary cup (237 ml), which is what American recipes mean. A metric cup (250 ml) is used in Australia and elsewhere โ expect roughly 5% difference.
